The Downeast Fisheries Trail celebrates the maritime heritage of Penobscot Bay to Passamaquoddy Bay. Henry Cove in Winter Harbor is one of their featured sites, where audio recordings completed by the University of Maine Folklife Center in 1973 with Dale Torrey, a Winter Harbor fisherman can be heard. Dale's memories of the fishing history of Winter Harbor are a first hand recounting of the stories passed on by multiple generations. Listen to the recordings.
The Winter Fisheries Harbor Oral History Project was completed in September 2017 with students and faculty of a College of the Atlantic class; Mapping Ocean Stories. Hours of recordings with 20 Winter Harbor citizens were summarized with photos and maps documenting the local fishing/boating knowledge of our area. Listen to the recordings.
